Brothers In Arms
Together the seven Cullen brothers trained and entered the London Marathon. One brother had an injury and had to pull out but the others ran together. They raised money for another Charity, but Paul sponsored them £10 for each one to win, with £100 for all of them to win.
Tony Cullen, Quality Manager at Thales Avionics had been training hard with
his 6 brothers to take part in the Flora London Marathon. On 18 April, the
brothers crossed the finishing line in 5 hours 15 minutes, a great
achievement.
Here's Tony's account of the day:
"My 6 brothers and I had been planning to run the London Marathon for months
but due to injury, my eldest brother Frank was unfortunately prevented from
taking part, nevertheless the 6 of us ran together crossing the finishing
line in approx. 5 hours 15 minutes. Keeping everyone together was difficult
particularly during the last few miles, but we did it!
Prior to the event I
received a call from a press agency based in Scotland stating that another
team of 7 brothers were running. We were already aware that a family of 11
(8 brothers and 3 sisters) were also taking part. The record for the most
siblings to complete the marathon is 5 hours so we are now waiting to hear
the times that the other families finished in before we can apply to
Guinness book of records. During our run, we joined the likes of the
plodding Samaritans giant birthday cake, a guy who was pushing a full size
coffin and a 93 year-old man who I think finished ahead of us! It was a
great day even though the weather was not too kind to the spectators. The
support and encouragement the runners receive is fantastic. Now at last we
can all get back to some normality, as will our families, friends and
work colleagues.
