Approximately 60% of all the money that the RSPCA
receives is left by generous supporters in their wills so you
can see how by leaving a legacy helps us to carry on our work for
years to come.
There
are three ways that you can leave money to the RSPCA:
|
Residuary
|
A residuary
legacy is the gift of the residue of your estate or
a percentage of the residue after your debts have been
settled and any legacies you leave to other people have been
paid. If you leave your whole estate as a gift, this is also
known as a residuary legacy. Generally, this kind of legacy
is of the greatest benefit to the RSPCA, as its value increases
in line with the value of your estate.
|
|
Pecuniary
|
A specified
sum of money, decided when the will or codicil is written,
is called a pecuniary legacy.
|
|
Specific
|
When a
particular item of value is bequeathed, this is a specific
legacy. This includes stocks and shares, the proceeds of a
life assurance policy, property, furniture and jewellery.
|
Choose
which area of the RSPCA's work your legacy will benefit
If you decide to make a will in favour of the RSPCA,
you will need to contact your solicitor and tell them what you want
to do. He or she will need to know the form of words which are usually
used when including the RSPCA in a will.
|
If
you wish your legacy to go to Sutton Branch, use these words
|
"I
give ....... to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals ....... Branch and I declare that the receipt of
the honorary treasurer or other proper officer of the said
branch shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said
legacy."
|
|
If
you wish your legacy to go to the RSPCA headquarters, use these
words:
|
"I
give ........ to the Royal Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals of Wilberforce Way, Southwater, Horsham,
West Sussex for its general charitable purposes and I declare
that the receipt of the honorary treasurer or other proper
officer of the RSPCA for the time being shall be a full
and sufficient discharge for the said legacy."
|
|
If
you wish your legacy to go to the RSPCA Overseas Fund, use these
words:
|
"I
give ........ to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals of Wilberforce Way, Southwater, Horsham, West Sussex
for its Overseas Fund. I further direct that the receipt of
the honorary treasurer or other proper officer of the RSPCA
for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge
for the said legacy."
